American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a cardiac Stepdown/Progressive Care Unit position in Albany, GA, requiring a minimum of 2 years of stepdown experience and a GA or compact RN license.

Details

• Acute care hospital setting in a 44-bed cardiac stepdown unit (4A/4B)
• Unit 4A focuses on cardiothoracic and cardiovascular surgery patients; Unit 4B cares for smaller procedure patients, drips, and CHF patients
• Common diagnoses include post-op CABG, cardiovascular surgery (fem pops, CEA, EVARS, AAA repairs), thoracotomy, VATS, stents, pacemakers, ablations, AICD, CHF, and AFib with RVR
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5 with nurse aide support at 1:10
• Telemetry monitoring required using Philips equipment; nurses must read and interpret strips
• Drips include Cardizem (titrated), amiodarone, dobutamine, dopamine (renal dose), Lasix, Bumex, heparin, Primacor, and Vasopressin
• Ventilatory support includes BiPAP, CPAP, Vapotherm, and high-flow oxygen (no full vents)
• PICC team, RT, and pharmacy available 24/7; hospitalist/intensivist in-house 24/7
• Charting via MEDITECH
• 12-hour day shifts, starting at 6:45 AM
• Every other weekend required
• Floating to the ICU is possible; travelers without ICU experience will be assigned stepdown-level patients only, or may be asked to assist with tasks in the ICU
• 17-week contract

Requirements

• Active GA or compact RN license required
• Current certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS, and NIHSS
• Minimum 2 years of stepdown experience in an acute care setting required — no exceptions
• Experience reading and interpreting telemetry strips required
• Must reside more than 75 miles from the facility (measured from the address on the candidate's driver's license)
• Driver's license required for consideration
• Must not have been employed at this facility within the last 12 months

• Provide cardiac stepdown care to a high-acuity cardiovascular and post-surgical patient population
• Ability to pull pacer wires is preferred; orientation to the skill will be provided if not already proficient
• Fast-paced unit with high room turnover — average census of 32–38 patients with 12–16 discharges/admissions on busy shifts
• Floor-specific orientation consists of 3 shifts
• Flexibility to work holidays and days surrounding holidays is required
• Dress code: Caribbean blue scrubs; natural hair color required; no fake or shellac nails, no facial piercings, and no visible tattoos
• Any requested time off must be disclosed prior to the start of the assignment
