American Traveler is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with 2+ years of experience for a variable shift position at an acute care hospital in Bangor, ME, supporting adult ICUs, a Level II Trauma ED, and more.

Details

• Work setting includes 3 adult ICUs, a Cardiac Critical Care Unit, a Level II Trauma Center Emergency Department, an Intermediate Care Unit, and general medical floors
• Level III NICU and PICU are also on-site; travelers are not required to train to NICU/PICU/Peds unless the position is specifically posted for those areas
• Common diagnoses include COPD, CHF, Cystic Fibrosis, ARDS, MVA trauma/surgery, pneumonia, lung cancer, stroke, ALS, GBS, COVID-19, and RSV
• Ventilators and respiratory equipment used include Servo U, Servo I, Hamilton T1, Trilogy, V60, V30, EV300, and Vero Biotech Nitric Delivery (Drager used in NICU only)
• Charting is performed in Cerner
• Variable shift schedule with day shift hours of 0645–1915 and night shift hours of 1845–0715; most current needs are on nights
• Travelers will not be required to flip between day and night shifts within the same week
• Every other weekend rotation required
• Voluntary call only, available 2 hours before and 2 hours after shift start time
• Holiday coverage is assigned unless RTO has been approved
• All RTO requests must be submitted to and approved by the manager
• Float to other trained units only — no floating to untrained areas

Requirements

• Active RRT credential required — CRTs and Respiratory Technicians will not be considered
• Minimum 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist
• Minimum 1 year of experience in the specialty
• For adult RT positions: current BLS and ACLS required
• For NICU/PICU/Peds RT positions: current BLS and NRP required; PALS preferred
• Strong critical care skills required, including airway and ventilator management, ABG puncture and analysis, non-invasive ventilation, code blue and rapid response experience, and inhaled medication administration
• If applying for a NICU/PICU/Peds-specific posting, previous NICU/PICU experience in addition to adult experience is required; familiarity with Oscillator 3100 Sensormatic and Drager ventilators is strongly preferred
• Compact or Maine (ME) RN license required if applicable
• Candidate's permanent address must be 100+ miles south or southwest of the facility
• Candidates who have previously worked at any Northern Light Health Hospital in a permanent capacity are not eligible
• 2 professional references within the past year required, with at least one from a supervisor, manager, director, or charge nurse — peer references are not accepted
• Copies of all current certifications required for consideration
• Driver's license required for consideration
• Full SSN required for consideration
• Flu vaccination required for clearance to start

• Highly protocol-driven, critical care–focused respiratory therapy team
• Department is supported by a lead/charge RT, manager, assistant manager, RT educator, and medical director
• Orientation consists of 1 general orientation shift with the RT Educator, plus 1 orientation shift per each unit the traveler is trained to (generally 4–5 shifts total)
