Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Speech Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) for an inpatient rehab contract working with adult and geriatric patients with dysphagia and complex medical needs.

Details

• Work in the inpatient rehab unit of a community hospital
• Serve adult and geriatric patients with diagnoses including stroke and infectious respiratory diseases
• Average daily census is 15 with a patient ratio of 1:15
• Perform bedside swallow evaluations and manage dysphagia, including diet modifications and thickening agents
• Day shift schedule from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday
• Block scheduling with alternating weekend coverage required (Saturdays and Sundays 9:00 AM–12:00 PM)
• Call is required as part of responsibilities
• Uses Meditech Expanse for documentation and Pyxis for medication systems

Requirements

• Current BLS certification required
• Active CCC-SLP, MBSImP, and Massachusetts state license required; license required if applicable
• Minimum 1 year of relevant inpatient experience required
• Previous charge experience is required
• Experience in a community hospital setting required; teaching hospital experience preferred
• Demonstrated experience with adult dysphagia management and related evaluations
• Ability to document thoroughly including assessments, plans of care, and discharge planning

Additional Information

• Main duties include conducting bedside swallow assessments, managing dysphagia plans, and documenting all therapy sessions
• Must be able to assess, recognize, and report signs of physical, sexual, or psychological abuse
• Support available from interpretation services, respiratory services, and unit secretary
